GA4-240202501-AA1-EV03 Critical thinking and media literacy - Crime and Punishment
Critical thinking and media literacy.
The Internet has made available to us a lot of information from anywhere in the world that we can access at any time.
At a time when fake news and misinformation predominate in the communication landscape, it is necessary to teach young people to be critical of the content they consume online to avoid being deceived. This process is known as media literacy.
Many internet users are not aware of the extent to which they can be manipulated with any information they receive. That is why it is important that they are taught to navigate safely through the digital universe.
One of the ways to awaken a critical spirit is to encourage people to ask themselves questions about everything they see, hear and read. This is what journalists, information professionals, do: editors constantly ask themselves questions to decipher the origin of the content and recognize whether it is reliable or not.
Crime and Punishment
According to the National Police, during 2022 there were 341 crimes by hitmen. In other words, almost a daily hitman act, as a consequence of a growing war between criminal gangs, headed by the Clan del Golfo, for drug trafficking routes and micro-trafficking pots.
In Cartagena, homicides in 2022 were 60% of all violent deaths. Deaths in traffic accidents were 25%; accidental deaths 8%, and suicides constituted 7% of all violent deaths.
The city has seen the situation worsen in terms of homicides and suicides from 2021 to 2022: the capital of Bolívar had the second highest homicide rate in the entire country in 2022 with 35 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
